Although this weekend will mark the end of the first month of the Grades cricket season, two wet Saturdays out of three means that the season has yet effectively to get off the ground, with a number of clubs’ leading batsmen left frustrated on the verge of recording three figure scores, which will now be wiped from the record books.
Game of the day on Saturday looks to be that at Castle Park between Kintore and Cults, while the two Grade 1 newcomers, Gordonians and St Ronald meet in St Ronald’s first home game at King’s College.
It is also a first home game of the season in Grade 2 for Crathie who welcome Grammar FPs to the royal estate; while Artisans travel to play Methlick at Lairds, and 2nd Cults travel to Fraserburgh.
Anchorians play Kemnay and Crescent take on Turriff in Grade 3; while in Grade 4 Huntly Highlanders entertain 2nd Mannofield, and Portcullis face Stoneywood-Dyce.
Sunday sees the start of the knockout cup trail, with preliminary round games in the Aberdeenshire, Bon Accord and Reid Cups, with Cults facing a potentially tricky encounter away to Stonehaven, while Mannofield take on Inverurie at the Country Ground. Crathie have a repeat of their Saturday league game in the opening round of the Bon Accord Cup; while in the Reid Cup Crescent take on Anchorians at the Links.
