Depends if its a cup or league match - usual scenario is bat first in the cup and bowl in the league.

Better to have a bowl first and attack. If the other team puts a decent total on, fair play. If not, good chance of an early pint.

Surely it depends on the track, the weather & your team. Not everyone likes to chase and some teams bat better when they can post their own total allowing a defensive or attacking approach depending upon how it goes. In the northern leagues of that place south of the border there is a saying "we've got 'em, they've got 'em to get". The logic being that runs on the board can always be defended whereas being confronted by a mamoth score against can lead to a crushing defeat as batsmen try and force the pace. You flips yer coin an' takes yer choice!
