Just to update..
The 'mighty' Kemnay CC have reached the Scottish final of the Yorkshire Tea Village Cup 2012.
We will be away to Fruechie in the Final on Sunday June 17th. Feel free to come and support us in a game we might not do so well in..
Wish us luck :/ hahaha.

Has anybody actually played a game in the village cup yet, its the only cup competition that you can get to a final without playing a game. Kintore played Freuchie many times and even won a few times but with opposition rarely travelling north these days its a bit of a dead duck in Scotland

Yeah and make sure all your players are eligible to play in the competiton. Looking at Freuchies last scorecard on cricket Scotland I see they had Usman Saeed and Hanif Shahzad playing for them. They couldn't possibly be the same Usman Saeed who has played 90 f-c matches in Pakistan or Hanif Shahzad who has played senior one day cricket in Pakistan as the village competition rules state you can't have anybody at your club who is receiving payment or benefits in kind of any sort. Or if it did happen to be them presumably they have just pitched up in Freuchie on holiday?

Actually AS this is not the case now.
A rule change (last year?) means that teams with Professionals and OSA's may now compete in the Village Cup, they just can't play their overseas players (http://blog.thecricketer.com/?p=34077).
Hence the reappearance of Freuchie in the competition. |

I did kind of know that this was the case but my desire to see Freuchie eliminated from the competition obviously trumped any need to check the facts. What I'll probably do is check for any of their bowlers taking illegal practice deliveries and insist that this should result in disqualification.

Just double checked the rules and their pro and amateur shouldn't be allowed to play if they've just arrived this season because
Quote:
9 (a) A player shall be eligible to play in The National Village Cup if he is a paid-up member of the club, and has played at least four non-National Village Cup matches for that club in the previous season (2011)
