Grade Results 8th/9th July 2006

Saturday's clash of the titans involving the top four sides in Grade 1 finished surprisingly tamely as Kintore crushed Ellon by 10 wickets to move to the top of the table, while previous leaders Bon Accord produced their poorest performance since the opening weekend of the season to go down to a 70-run defeat by Cults in a low scoring game at the Allan Park.

Two high-class bowling attacks were on top throughout the game at Cults, as only a late recovery spearheaded by Amol Saxena enabled the home side to recover from 72 for 6 to post a 3-figure total.  However, with new opening bowler Tatsat again in impressive form, Bon Accord were rapidly reduced to 7 for 3 with their prolific opener Awan falling for just 3; and although Nawaz Mirza hit out boldly, no one else scored double figures, and once he was caught by Pandit off Saxena the game was effectively decided, Saxena finishing with 5 wickets, and Arun mopping up the tail, taking the final two wickets with successive balls to leave himself on a hatttrick for next week.

Bon Accord's collapse was not the worst of the day however, as Ellon were shot out for just 43 at the Gordon Park, Doug Anderson and Roy Walker each taking 4 wickets, as last season's champions Kintore cruised back to the top of the table, and restricted their opponents to just one point.

Elsewhere in the top league St Ronald's season of misery continued against Stonehaven, despite an improved batting performance, Bryan Snelling returning figures of 5 for 51 for the Mineralwell Park side, while an undefeated 49 from Chris Clelland saw Grammar FPs put an end to Queens Cross's recent run of form at Harlaw.

At the top of Grade 2 both Mannofield and Academy lost, to allow Artisans and 2nd Cults to make up ground in their own challenges for promotion, while Stoneywood-Dyce's defeat of Dunecht, Colin Moir scoring a century and taking five wickets, increased the pressure on Anchorians and Dunecht in the race to avoid relegation.

In Grade 3 Caledonian's defeat by Methlick at Lairds made it a trio of defeats for league leaders, while Portcullis disposed of struggling 2nd Ellon at Links to consolidate their own hopes of promotion, and Fraserburgh were held to a draw by bottom side 2nd Grammar at Rubislaw.

A re-arranged game in Grade 4 with 2nd St Ronald 146-5 v 2nd Methlick the match was abandoned after 39 overs.
