Grades Results 6th August 2006

This season's intriguing race for the Grade 1 title took another twist at the weekend as Bon Accord disposed of Cults in a match which lasted barely two hours, while current champions Kintore went down to Ellon.

With two of the Grades' top bowling attacks in action, a low scoring game had been expected at the Links, but no one had expected the clatter of wickets as Cults subsided to 41 all out, only opener and captain Dilap Patel, and number 10 batsman Stan Richards achieving double figures, Bon Accord skipper taking six wickets for 18, while at the other end Nawaz Mirza chipped in with three for 22.  Although Amol Saxena struck with three Bon Accord for 15, an undefeated 20 from Mirza saw the home team home in under eight overs, to take them to the top of the table ahead of their Small Clubs Cup Final on Sunday.

At Castle Park meanwhile the two Jonathans, Hoare and Barrett, played the leading roles with both bat and ball as Ellon returned to their early season form to beat Kintore, while in the lower part of the table Banchory bounced back from last week's defeat by FPs to beat Inverurie, while FPs made it two successive wins, beating Queens Cross, to plunge the Harlaw club back into the relegation mix.

At the top of Grade 2 Mannofield held on to draw against Artisans at the Duthie Park, while Academy slipped back against 2nd Cults, for who Eddie Spearman returned to form with the bat; and at the foot Dunecht and Anchorians both took full points, following another scratching by Stoneywood-Dyce, who must surely now be in danger of slipping down to Grade 3 for what may the first time in their illustrious history.

In Grade 3 leaders Methlick were defeated by Caledonian, while a century from Portcullis's S. Hasan leaves the three clubs still competing for the two promotion spots, and makes it even more likely that 2nd Ellon will be one of the two clubs to join 2nd Grammar in relegation to Grade 4, when the two bottom leagues are re-balanced at the end of the season. Meanwhile a late collapse when only 8 runs were necessary with 3 wickets in hand saw Crathie lose to 2nd Kintore despite a century from Tim Summers.

Another walkover saw Turriff preserve their hundred per cent record at the top of Grade 4.
