Aberdeen Junior Indoor Cricket League - 2016

Dear Junior Convenor/Club Secretary

I would like to invite your club to take part in an Indoor League programme for junior cricketers; the

‘inaugural’ Aberdeen Junior Indoor League starting in January 2017.

These ‘indoor leagues’ will take place on Sundays at Sheddocksley Leisure Centre between 9am and

12 noon, as follows:

 Under-11s

o 8-a-side – pairs – softball

o Round 1 - 22 January, Round 2 - 19 February, Finals Day - 19 March

 Under-13s

o 7-a-side - 8 overs - ‘incrediball’

o Round 1 - 29 January, Round 2 - 26 February, Finals Day - 26 March

 Under-15s

o 6-a-side - 10 overs – hardball

o Round 1 - 5 February , Round 2 - 5 March, Finals Day - 2 April

 Under-18s

o 6-a-side - 10 overs – hardball

o Round 1 - 12 February, Round 2 - 12 March, Finals Day - 9 April

Numbers are limited to 6 teams per competition; clubs can enter more than one team if the want to

and places are allocated on a first come first served basis.

If you would like to take part I would be obliged if you could let me know as soon as you can (and by

no later than 31 December 2016).

There will be a small fee of £2 per player per game to cover hall hire and prizes.

The Formats

Under-11s (Softball) Under-13s (‘Incrediball’)

 ‘Kwik Cricket Indoors’

 8-a-side pairs

 Pitch length - 16 yards

 Batters bat in pairs for two overs each

 Runs deducted when wickets lost (‘out’ batter

does not face the next ball both remain ‘in’ to

complete the two overs)

 Can only be out bowled, caught, run out/stumped,

hit wicket

 Everyone bats, everyone bowls and everyone

fields/keeps wicket

 Plastic bats and stumps, no protection required

 Innings starts at 200

 If scores level at end of both innings the team

losing the fewest wickets wins

 No player to stand within 8 yards of the bat, in

front of the wicket

 7-a-side

 Pitch length – 20 yards

 8 overs per side

 Conventional Laws of cricket apply (except, see

below)

 Wooden bats

 Protection for batters (& keeper) advisable

 Wicket keeper ‘sticks’

 ‘you are out if you are out’

 Last man stands (all 7 wickets to fall)

 Everyone, apart from the wicket keeper , must

bowl at least one over. Two bowlers can bowl 2

overs (they must bat at 6 and 7)

 Batters ‘retire’ at 20 and may come back in once all

other wickets have fallen – except last man

 No player to stand within 8 yards of the bat, in

front of the wicket

Under-15s Under-18s

 Everyone, apart from the wicket

keeper, bowls two overs each

 Batters ‘retire’ at 25 and may

come back in once all other

wickets have fallen – except last

man

 Everyone, apart from the wicket keeper , must bowl at least one

over; remaining overs:

- 2x bowlers bowl 3 overs (bat at 5 & 6)

- 1 x bowler bowls 2 overs (bats at 4)

 Batters ‘retire’ at 30 and may come back in once all other

wickets have fallen – except last man

Rules which are common to both Under-15s and Under-18s

 6-a-side

 Pitch length – 22 yards

 10 overs a side

 Use hardball

 Wicket-keeper ‘sticks’

 ‘you are out if you are out’

 Last man stands (all 6 wickets to fall)

 Conventional cricket equipment including protection

 Conventional Laws of cricket apply (except, see below)

No player to stand within 10 yards of the bat, in front of the wicket

General rules, i.e. which apply to all formats:

 Wides & No Balls count as 2 runs – no extra delivery

 Two runs awarded each time batters complete ‘a run’

 One run awarded (instantly) when either side wall or the Back wall – the wall behind keeper – is struck

 ‘Boundary Wall’ – the wall behind the bowler: ‘4’ when struck on the full, ‘6’ along the floor, bouncing or

off a fielder. As outside, ball is dead once it hits the Boundary Wall.

 Batters can be caught off all walls, except the boundary wall

 A ‘running’ crease will be marked at ¾ pitch-length: non-striker starts from this crease.

 Batters who strike the roof will be deemed to be out (except U11s)

 1 overthrow will be added to the score if the ball strikes either side wall or back wall ONLY when

attempting a run out. If the ball strikes the Boundary Wall during an attempted run-out 6 runs wil be

Results Hotline
All results should be texted to 07910 279627 by 8.15pm on the day of the match concerned. The Format used should be "1st team batting total with overs, top two batsman, top two bowlers, 2nd team batting total with overs, top two batsman, top two bowlers" followed by any highlights
