Grades Results for w/e 6th/7th May 2017

Sun Shines on Alan Park - By Jack Nixon

The warm sun greeted week two of the Aberdeenshire Cricket Association season, and no more so than at the Allan Park where the ground was seeing its first action since the floods of nearly two years ago. ''It's good to be home,'' said Cults captain Aqeel Ajazi, happy to have seen his side bowl out AGSFP's for a meagre 118, only to see his own side crumble to 71 all out in the sun trap at the picturesque Cults ground.

His opposite number from AGSFPs, Rob Swiergon had predicted at the break that his side's lowly total would be a testing one. ''It's not easy out there, but we are all pleased to be back at the most attractive venue in Grades cricket,'' said the captain of last season's Grade 1 runners up.

Not surprisingly it was the bowlers who caught the eye in a tense, but absorbing game with Nikhil Bhavnasar claiming the home honours with five wickets for 46, while Karan Ahmed was the most effective visiting bowler with three for 5, followed closely by Sajeed Hameed who also struck thrice for 19. AGSFPs's Geoff Morrison was the only batsman to cope on the seaming track with a fine 30.

Elsewhere in Grade 1 Bon Accord last season's champions racked up 304 for seven at Kemnay with Fazal Awan(106) scoring the first century of the season before restricting Kemnay/ Kintore to 170 for 9 which on another day might have been a winning total. Home captain Liam Thom was the pick of the home bowlers with three for 70.

In a nail biter at Sheddocksley Academy eased home by five runs at home to Inverurie, scoring 186 for seven before containing the visitors to 181 for 8, this despite stout resistance from George Hadden who hit a fine 56, but ably supported by his captain Trevor Norval who scored a stubborn 25. Scott White was the outstanding visiting bowler with three for 21. Knightriders beat Mannofield by 31 at Hazlehead, scoring 179 all out and then bowling Mannofield out for 148.

Ellon Gordon crashed to a second defeat at Crescent, despite Scott Middleton stroking a fine 65 in his side 129 all out, chasing a home total of 168.

Sanja Tahseen grabbed a hat-trick in his three for 8 for the home side, while Richard Greenfield was Ellon Gordon's most successful bowler with four for 12.

The highlight of the day in Grade 2 was a superb 103 for Stoneywood-Dyce's Mark Lambley in his side's total 214, which they followed up by bowling out Grampian for 111. A tight finish at Countesswells saw Gordonians beat Methlick by two wickets in a low scoring game Methlick having been bowled out for 116.

In Grade 2 2nd AGSFPs racked up 232 for five before skittling Aberdeen Super Kings for 43.

In the only game played in Grade 4 Turriff were too good for 2nd Methlick, bowling them out for 115 at Lairds and then passing the home total with three wickets in hand.
