Grades Results for w/e 8th-9th July 2017 - Shock for AGSFPs

Knight Riders caused the upset of the day in Grade 1, beating title chasing AGSFPs, enabling Academy to leap frog the Rubislaw side, while giving leaders Bon Accord some breathing space at the head of affairs.

The Groats Road side batted first, racking up a challenging total of 222 for the loss of seven wickets thanks to half centuries for Sivaganesan Palaniappan (55) and Somasundaram Kumarasamy (52), while Sam Knudson was the most successful bowler for AGSFPs, claiming three for 34.

The AGSFPs reply was led by Eddie Steinson who hit a valuable 61, but apart from Alex Keith (30) got little support from his fellow batsmen. Balaji Vijayaraj and Vikas Punia took three wickets apiece for the Knight Riders.

Bon Accord enjoyed a straight forward 129 run win after clocking up 270 against Crescent who could only manage 141 in reply. Reman Haider hit an aggressive 81 for the champions, and Fazal Awan weighed in with a studied 62.

In defeat Nathan Thangaraj enjoyed a good day for Crescent, taking three for 61 before rattling up a defiant 52 when his side batted. Tauqeer Malik was the pick of the Bon Accord attack with four for 23.

Academy kept its title hopes alive with the easiest win of the day, bowling ACE Mannofield out for 47 at Sheddocksley before easing to victory for the loss of two wickets. Phani Prattipati took four for 16 in an impressive spell of bowling, reminding Bon Accord they are hard on their tails.

In the basement game at Allan Park, Ellon Gordon registered a first win of the season, keeping its hopes of beating relegation alive. Their lowly total of 114 of which Lawrence Meikle scored 39 did not look like a winning one, but such is the state of morale among Cults batsmen at the moment, it proved to be too much as not for the first time this season the home side failed to reach 100, falling short on 84 all out, mainly due to some inspired bowling from Richard Greenfield who ended the afternoon with six for 25, but getting good support from his captain Ben Webb who chipped in with two for 44, and scored a valuable 26 when his side batted. Geet Grover and Abid Ali took three wickets apiece for the home side.

At Bogbeth Park there was more misery for Kemnay-Kintore who were beaten by seven wickets by derby rivals after being bowled out for 133. Only Daniel Reeve showing any resistance with a dogged unbeaten 51. Paul Cook and John Moore were the destroyers in chief for Inverurie Don Valley who rattled off the required runs for the loss of three wickets. Will French and Chris Watson were joint top scorers with 49 for the winners, thus ended a bad week for the home side in which captain Liam Thom announced he will miss the rest of season due to injury and has seen them drop into the relegation area.

In Grade 2 leaders Stoneywood-Dyce bounced back to form with a 52 run win away to Methlick in which Martin Reid (88) and Ewan Davidson (67) top scored for the winners in its total of 235 for four before bowling the home side out 183. In the battle for second place Grampian pipped Siyapa in a thriller, easing through by one wicket in a low scoring game in which the Kings College side were bowled out for 115.

The relegation battle at the Burnett Park between Banchory and Fraserburgh was equally thrilling, ending in a 13 run win for the visitors who were 127 for eight, mainly due to a sparking unbeaten 62 from Liam Bowie who also took four home wickets. The winless Banchory battled to 114 of which Sam Rotheram scored 46.

Gordonians beat 2nd Knight Riders by five wickets at Countesswells.

Stonehaven Thistle remain the only Grades team with a 100% record after beating Portcullis by 98 runs at Mineralwell Park on Grade 3 business. 2nd Grampian were narrow seven run winners at home to Aberdeen Super Kings who had J Varghese Jr to thank after his five for 25 and a valuable 42.

And finally 2nd AGSFPs scored 163 for the loss of nine wickets before bowling out Dunecht for 119.
