Another Youngster for the Future - 2017

Hard on the heels of our good news stories about young, developing players, along comes another from not surprisingly Stoneywood - Dyce, a club well known for producing top line youngsters for the game.

Jack Lambley may only be 14, and has only been playing the game for three years, but last Sunday he stunned his teammates in a development game against Aberdeen Grammar FP's, hitting an astonishing 142, which included some big hits, out of all proportion to his young years, according to those who were privileged to watch the knock.

The world is clearly the oyster of our young who are being carefully nurtured by a number of dedicated coaches who clearly recognise the need to promote good technique and attitude in the game.

Young Jack's father Mark will no doubt have reflected on his son's big hitting, in stark contrast to his own more sedate innings at Mannofield on Saturday where he played a major part in giving Stoneywood-Dyce a sound start in its successful chase of 149 in their clash with Strathmore Union rivals Mannofield in the good company of veteran Shaun Coetzer. The partnership was in fact worth 46, and the basis for the win.

So while we rightly applaud the dramatic entrance of a precocious talent, it's not quite time for Master Jack to say "move over dad."
