Grades Preview for w/e 15th-16th July 2017 - Big Weekend for Grade 1 Basement Clubs

The rescheduling of the top Grade 1 game between leaders Bon Accord and second placed Academy, due to one of the Bon Accord players getting married on Saturday, shifts the attention to the basement where three teams are fight to avoid relegation.
The most intriguing game is at Gordon Park where bottom side Ellon Gordon will bid to make it back to back wins when they meet Kemnay-Kintore who have been in free fall for the last month, this despite playing well in the majority of its starts since being promoted along with Inverurie.
"Last week we showed our character when we finally came good at home to Cults, giving our confidence a great boost. We have not enjoyed the rub of the green so far, but perhaps our luck is about to change. It's certainly a big game," said Ben Webb, the Ellon Gordon captain who despite his side's predicament, has been in great all round form. Their opponents on the other hand look to be down on their luck, having not won a game since beating this coming Saturday’s opponents early in the season and have lost the services of its charismatic captain Liam Thom with a knee injury and will be without him for the rest of the season.
Elsewhere equally troubled Crescent who sit uncomfortably in second bottom place have a tricky test at home to title hopefuls AGSFPs who will be keen to take advantage of Bon Accord and Academy not being in action, whilst bouncing back from its shock defeat away to Knight Riders at Groats Road last week.
"It was a shock to our system, but it's still early days in the campaign," said Rob Swiergon, the AGSFPs captain.
Cults attempt to get its misfiring season up and running to the frustration of captain Aqeel Ajazi. "We are a side with bags of potential, but it is time we started showing it. The home game with Knight Riders gives us that opportunity," said Ajazi.
ACE Mannofield host a mid table game with Inverurie Don Valley.
The teams from grades two, three and four take a break from league action to participate in the semi-final stages of the Bon Accord Cup, the Reid Cup and the Johnson Rose Bowl.
Among the ties on offer is an attractive Bon Accord Cup game at Countesswells where Gordonians take on the highflying Siyapa side who are hotly contesting the Grade 2 title. The other game is between Grampian and 2nd Knight Riders.
There is also a great deal of interest in the progress the two Stonehaven Thistle sides are making in Grade 3 and 4, especially the Grade 3 side who are the only side in all the four grades with a 100% record. That record could be on the line in the Reid Cup in which they meet 2nd AGSFPs at Mineralwell Park. The all Aberdeenshire clash involving Crathie and Dunecht at Balmoral in the second semi gives both sides a crack at much needed glory. The Stonehaven second team will travel to the Haughs where Turriff will be keen to advance to the final of the Johnson Rose Bowl. The 2nd teams of Kemnay-Kintore and Cults meet in the other semi final of the same competition.Sadly, 2nd Ellon Gordon have tendered their withdrawal from the Grades due to ongoing issues with player availability.
