Cup Finals on the Horizon - 2017

Now that the finalists in all the major cups are know, it is a clear sign that the end of the season is fast approaching.

But yet with only four weeks to go, there is yet much to be resolved, especially at the head of affairs in Grade 1 where four teams have a chance of landing the title, although Academy and Knight Riders look to be the outsiders in the best run in seen for years.

The Knight Riders in particular has enjoyed a quite remarkable season, reaching the final of the Aberdeenshire Cup being its most recent achievement.

Formed in 2009, the Groats Road side has made steady progress through the leagues, and are now poised under the cheerful leadership of Somasundaram Kumarasamy who graces the grades with his ready smile, and gracious charm to enjoy its best ever season.

''We are enjoying a very good season, but we know we have to beat Bon Accord twice in the next four weeks if we are to have any chance of picking up trophies. We are all very excited about playing at Mannofield on Sunday August 27th in the final of the Aberdeenshire Cup. Beating Bon Accord there would make it a great season, as it is, we are delighted just to be there. It is a great privilege to play there,'' said Kumarasamy.

The shock 31 run win against high flying AGSFPs in the semi-final of the prestigious Aberdeenshire Cup at Rubislaw owed much to an amazing knock of 52 by middle order batsman Poongkannan Palaniyandi, and all the more remarkable for the fact that he had just flown into Aberdeen from India on the morning of the match.

''I'm not even sure if I know what day it is, but know I'll sleep tonight'' said Palaniyandi after the epic win.

The Knight Riders will have to win all its remaining four league games if they are have any chance of winning the Grade 1 title, starting with a vital game at home to Bon Accord, but an unfazed Kumarasamy smiled and said: ''Anything is possible in the game of cricket.''
