Grades Results for w/e 5th-6th August 2017 - Fair Play to Amar Mirashi

The race for the Grade 1 title intensified as both leaders Bon Accord and second placed AGSFPs enjoyed wins, but there were defeats for the two other challengers Knight Riders and Academy, effectively making it a two horse race with three weekends to go.

Bon Accord retained its slim advantage, but only just scraped home against Knight Riders who needed five to win going into the last over with one wicket remaining, only to fall short to the second ball.

''This was the most remarkable game of cricket I have ever played in, it had everything, including lots of runs, quality bowling and some magnificent catches,'' said Tauqeer Malik, the Bon Accord captain after his side had posted a splendid 197 for nine from its 45 over allocation, which looked to be enough on the artificial wicket at Groats Road, but the Hazlehead side had other ideas, making for a first class game, as they valiantly attempted to hunt down the runs.

Nawaz Mirza top scored for the visitors with a superb middle order knock of 78, while Prasanth Mallireddy and Vikas Punia were the pick of the home bowlers with four wickets apiece. Vijay Ramasamy hit a splendid 54 for the home side, while Fazal Awan did the damage with the ball, taking four for 32 to deny the gallant charge of the Knight Riders. ''We are not yet out of it. There are still three games to play,'' said Somasundaram Kumarasamy, the Knight Riders captain.

AGSFPs had a much easier passage at Rubislaw where they bowled Mannofield all out for 76 before cruising to victory for the loss of only one wicket, Alex Keith scored an unbeaten 35 for the home team. Roland Knudson and Harold Mapplebeck were the home bowling heroes, claiming three wickets each for only eight runs.

Academy crashed out of the title race, failing to hunt down the Cults total of 79, sliding to 61 all out at Allan Park.

There was drama aplenty in the basement battle at the Links where Crescent tied with Kemnay-Kintore in a match made all the more astonishing when with the scores level on 96 and the last visiting pair at the wicket Amar Mirashi walked after giving the faintest of glove catches without waiting for the umpire's decision. A rarity in the game at any level, reflecting well on the Bogbeth Park's sides sense of sportsmanship.

There were smiles all round at Burnett Park where Tim Wilkinson celebrated 50 years of playing for Banchory with a first win of the season in Grade 2, taking two wickets, and two blinding catches to help dismiss Stoneywood-Dyce for 143, but for Wilkinson, a great advocate of junior cricket there was more pleasure in seeing teenage brothers Chad and Dean Abbott take three wickets each in their first season with the club. Josh Crawley hit an unbeaten 72 in the home reply and two wicket win. The result effectively takes the Peoples Park side out of the title race, particularly as leaders Grampian had a nine wicket win at the expense of Methlick. Siyapa enjoyed a 23 run win at home to 2nd Knight Riders. Fraserburgh eased its relegation troubles with a narrow two wicket win at the Broch where Gordonians were the visitors.

In Grade 3 unbeaten leaders Stonehaven Thistle had a thumping 174 win over Dunecht who crashed to 24 all out when chasing the home total of 195 for five. Portcullis shocked the Aberdeen Super Kings, bowling them out for 71 before easing to victory for the loss of three wickets.

There were no games played in Grade 4.
