Sad News - 2017

The death of one of the most loved, and respected players in the ACA Grades has come as great shock to all those who knew Malcolm Allanach (77) of Ellon Gordon who passed away peacefully last week at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.

Malcolm's love of cricket at both club and international level was well known with those who associated with the Gordon Park club.

An outstanding, hard-hitting batsman, he was best known for his boundary hits, rather than the running of quick singles.

Malcolm was in fact strongly associated with the Ellon Gordon side that won the Small Club's Cup in 1986, though it was his brother Neil who featured in the final match, never to be forgotten by lovers of cricket in the town. All this while managing to get in the odd game of golf, hitting the ball prodigious distances, but rarely in a straight line. He was equally at home playing the game of bridge, whilst savouring his favourite tipple a glass of Laphroaig Whisky.

The most relaxed and affable men, he shall be sadly missed by all his Ellon team mates who regarded him as the caring face of the club, and a joy to spend time with.

One of his contemporaries at the club once said of him: "If the world was full of people like Malcolm it would be a lovely place to live, but there would be very little, if any organisation."

His funeral will be held at St Mary's-on-the Rock Church on Thursday 9th November 2017 in Ellon at 1:45pm when it is anticipated a big turnout will be there to see off this most modest of sporting heroes. There is one thing for sure, there will be many a tale of a man who never in my time in his company spoke ill of another person. Our sincere condolences to Malcom’s Family and friends
