Grades Preview for w/e 19th-20th May 2018

Nearly a month into the new season, and it is clear that the decision by the Aberdeenshire Cricket Association committee to create three divisions rather than the old model of four has already proved to be paying dividends. Ian Stephen, a long serving ACA Committee Treasurer who also serves on the board of Cricket Scotland welcomed the changes and said: “It has certainly made the leagues more competitive, bringing the issues of promotion and relegation into sharper focus. We have got off to a good start, helped by having some good weather at the weekends”
The battle at the top of Grade 1 is particularly intense with three teams still having 100% records. Setting the pace are last season's champions AGSFPs who have lost only three wickets in winning their first three games, but likely to have their first big test tomorrow when they meet Knight Riders at Rubislaw. Rob Swiergon, the AGSFPs captain said: “We have hit the ground running, but our opponents are also unbeaten. It promises to be a great game”. Bon Accord who are also on a charge as they travel to Inverurie where they will find the home side keen to put last week's shock defeat at the hands of new boys Stoneywood-Dyce behind them. Elsewhere, Academy meet Cults, Crescent play Grampian, and Mannofield are at home to Stoneywood-Dyce.
The top of Grade 2 is similarly competitive where Gordonians head a pack of four teams all with 100% record, although something will have to give at Methlick, where the leaders take on one of their nearest challengers, while newly promoted Stonehaven Thistle travel to Aberdeen to meet Aberdeen Super Kings. Fraserburgh host a game with Siyapa, and 2nd Knight Riders will be at the foot of the table in a battle with their 2nd AGSFPs counterparts.
Banchory lead the charge in Grade 3 hosting their local derby with Crathie at Burnett Park, while Dunecht the other team in the division with an unbeaten record have a challenging game with the equally ambitious 2nd Grampian. Turriff are home to 2nd Methlick, and finally 2nd Stonehaven are at home to 3rd AGSFPs.
