Grades Preview for w/e 9th-10th June 2018

After the fireworks of last weekend in Grades cricket, there will be high expectations of a repeat of the high scoring this coming weekend. Not least at the Gordon Park where Ellon Gordon will be seeking to build on the 1227 they have scored since the start of the season, including the record 459 racked up last weekend at the expense of 2nd AGSFPs. Siyapa are the visitors who will do well to stem the run flow of the home Ellon Gordon side who last week had three batsmen reaching three figures. Brian Veldsman, Stuart Davies and Jonny Barrett will all be keen to repeat their heroics of last weekend. Since 5th May 2018, Ellon Gordon have clocked up scores of 173, 288, and 307 to sit nicely with the Grades record total last week at Rubislaw. Club secretary Huw Owen was delighted at the flying start the team had made but said “After being relegated from the top Grade 1 last season, we set our minds to bouncing straight back. So far, we are on target, though our big test will come on 23rd June when we meet Gordonians, the other unbeaten club in the division. We'll know better then where we are at”. Owen was also able to point to the progress being made in attracting juniors to the club that has been in existence since 1862, laying claim to being the oldest club in the Aberdeenshire Grades. “A week on Monday our hard working Junior Convener Ian Duncan will, in partnership with Neil Cameron of Cricket Scotland, be running a coaching day for 94 youngsters at the Gordon Park. I like to think we are one of the front runners in promoting junior cricket in the North-East” said Owen who occasionally turns his arm over for the team, including taking two wickets for 11 in the game against Aberdeen Super Kings earlier in the season.

In the top grade, AGSFPs, the defending champions will bid to get their Grade 1 title drive back on track at home to Academy, while their conquerors of last week Bon Accord are away to Mannofield. But the game of the day is between Crescent and Knight Riders who sit in third and fourth places respectively, waiting for slip ups from the two leaders. It is also tight at the bottom half of the division where two of the league's new comers Grampian and Stoneywood-Dyce play each other.

In Grade 2 third placed Fraserburgh entertain leaders Gordonians, while there is a vital bottom of the table clash between Aberdeen Super Kings and 2nd AGSFPs. 2nd Knight Riders are at home to Methlick.

The biggest interest in Grade 3 will be in how many of the four fixtures actually go ahead, given that to date 10 matches in the division have already been conceded due to clubs not being able to raise sides.
