Grades Preview for w/e 16th-17th June 2018 - Aberdeenshire Cup Quarter-Finals

The quarter-finals of the Aberdeenshire Cup takes pride of place this weekend with holders Bon Accord getting their defence under way with a testing trip to the Peoples Park on Sunday when they meet Stoneywood-Dyce. ''Always a tough place to go,'' said Tauqeer Malik, the Bon Accord captain. AGSFPs appear to have a much easier task at the Allan Park where they play Cults. Crescent are at home to Inverurie at the Links, while in the fourth tie of the most prestigious trophy played for in the history of the Grades, Mannofield play Knight Riders last year's losing finalists. But for Grade 1 leaders AGSFPs there is the small matter of a league game to be played first tomorrow at Inverurie, and according to captain Rob Swiergon, it will be a big challenge. ''Inverurie boast a team packed with talent, and on their own, attractive ground will pose a huge threat to our title chances,'' said Swiergon. In the two other games in the league, Academy meet Mannofield at Kemnay, and third placed Knight Riders can close the gap on Bon Accord who are not in action, should they beat Grampian at Groats Road.

In Grade 2, there are two games, both being played on Sunday with the pick of being at the Lairds ground where derby rivals Methlick entertain leaders Ellon Gordon who are currently unbeaten, although the status of their game last week with Siyapa has been referred to the Grades Sub-Committee for investigation and determination. The game came to an abrupt end near its climax. Siyapa are at home to Aberdeen Super Kings.

In Grade 3, all four matches are being played tomorrow with leaders Banchory playing Portcullis at the Burnett Park. Second placed Dunecht travel to Rubislaw where they meet 3rd AGSFPs, Turriff play hosts to Crathie and 2nd Stonehaven Thistle are at home to 2nd Grampian. Encouragingly for teams in this league, three of the four scheduled games last weekend went ahead after a run of conceded games threatened to put the future of the division in jeopardy.
