Aberdeenshire Cup Semi-Final 2018

At a meeting last night (Tuesday 24th July 2018) the Management Committee of the Aberdeenshire Cricket Association discussed the factors which had led to its decision to re-arrange under Association Rule 16 the semi-final of the Aberdeenshire Cup between Inverurie and Stoneywood-Dyce, originally scheduled for Sunday July 22nd, with a reserve date of Sunday August 5th.
This is not a decision the Committee, by circulation, took lightly, and was made in full knowledge of the opposing views of the two clubs. The background to the impasse, as more fully outlined in an e-mail sent to both clubs, however made clear that Stoneywood-Dyce were committed to two fixtures, the player eligibility rules of which meant that only one could be fulfilled.
The easy decision would have been for the Committee to stand firm, or to decline to intervene, leading to a 50% chance that the semi-final of its premier competition would be scratched. Given however that its rules allow a pre-identified reserve date for each round of cup games, which precedent [including earlier this season] have employed to avoid clashes with other competitions at a national or regional level, the Committee unanimously took the view that postponing the fixture, despite the short notice and accepted inconvenience, was the way in which it could best defend the status and integrity of its Competition, as well as maximising the opportunities for teams from north-east cricket to secure national coverage through their success in other competitions .
Accordingly, it is now asking Inverurie to specify on which of the next 3 Sundays (July 29th, the original reserve date of August 5th, or August 12th) it would be willing, albeit reluctant, to fulfil this fixture, on the basis that the rules for player eligibility [having played 3 previous games at grade 1 level or below] governing Stoneywood-Dyce would be determined in relation to the original date of July 22nd. It has also forwarded to the two clubs a fuller explanation of the background, which resulted in this most unfortunate clash.
