Grades Preview for w/e 4th-5th August 2018

Bon Accord have emerged as favourites to regain the Grade 1 title with only four games remaining in one the closest run ins in the history of the top flight local league. A trip to Bogbeth Park where they meet relegation haunted Academy will hold no fears for the Links based side, whereas their nearest challengers Knight Riders and last season's champions AGSFPs both face tricky tests against Inverurie and in form team Stoneywood-Dyce. Elsewhere there is an intriguing game at the Links where Crescent entertain Cults who have battled out of the relegation area on the back of wins against fellow strugglers Grampian and Inverurie in recent weeks. Nathan Thangaraj, the Crescent captain confirmed the challenge the Allan Park side would pose when he said ''Cults are playing well. In particular their captain Geet Grover is scoring freely every week, and will be a wicket crucial to us, but we are playing well. Getting to the final of the Thistle Sports Sevens on Tuesday was a mark of the progress we are making. We are also in the first five, and just as importantly, enjoying our cricket.'' The basement battle between Mannofield and Grampian at Harlaw will go some way to deciding which of the two goes down.
In Grade 2, leaders Ellon Gordon host a game with Stonehaven Thistle, while second placed Gordonians are away to Aberdeen Super Kings. Third placed Fraserburgh entertain 2nd AGSFPs at Kessock Park, and Methlick meet Siyapa at the Lairds.
In Grade 3, the clash of the top Banchory and Dunecht at the Burnett Park is one the visitors must win if they are to have any chance of overhauling the leaders.
Portcullis and 2nd Grampian will meet in the semi-final of the Reid Cup at Sheddocksley on Sunday to determine who has the right to play Banchory in the final on Sunday August 19.
2nd Methlick player Deni Sarafimoski who is by his own admission not the most prolific of scorers for his team, had a day to remember when he made a rare appearance for the Methlick first eleven at Lairds. The likeable Australian was a late call up for the home game against 2nd Knight Riders, but not surprised to be asked to fill the number 11 slot, but in the event proved to be a key man in the narrow one run win, scoring an unbeaten 14 in his side's 167 all out. Deni also made a catch early in the visitors innings to remove the dangerous Vidhyasagar Vivekananda, enabling his side to bowl the Groats Road side out for 166 in a nail-biting finish. Sarafimoski was suitably modest but said ''Goodness what I would have gone on to score if Paul MacDonald had not got himself out when he was on 34.''
