Grades Results for w/e 11th-12th August 2018

Bon Accord closed in on the Grade 1 title on a near unplayable wicket at the Links where visitors Inverurie did well to score 96 on a track that the Bon Accord vice-captain Andy Win described as ''difficult and dangerous.'' ''By the end of the afternoon there were a number of badly bruised players on both sides,'' said Win who coped better than most, calmly stroking his way to 42 as his side successfully hunted down the total set by Inverurie for the loss of six wickets, eventually getting out to the Kellands Park stand out Scott White who took four for 27, and scored 26 when he opened the innings. Knight Riders kept their title hopes alive at Groats Road where they effectively took the defending champions AGSFPs out of contention, bowling them out for 102 after setting them a target of 163. Vijay Amirtharaj starred for the home side, claiming five wickets for 20 as his side cruised to victory in 33.1 overs. The title race in the top flight could now go to the last Saturday of the league season, especially if the in form Crescent can put one over on Bon Accord this week. In the relegation battle at the Allan Park, Cults captain Geet Grover hit an unbeaten 98, enabling the home side to overhaul the 178 all out by Academy, while fellow strugglers Grampian were also well beaten by Crescent who hunted down the 179 set to them for the loss of only four wickets.
In Grade 2, Siyapa shocked promotion seeking Fraserburgh, bowling them out for only 115 after setting them a total of 252 all out. Tanweer Khan took five for 32 for the Duthie Park side. Gordonians took full advantage of the situation, climbing back into second place after beating Methlick by at Countesswells, chasing down the 192 for eight set by the visitors for whom Alan Robson hit a sparkling 110, for the loss of six wickets. Aberdeen Super Kings continued their winning run at Stonehaven where they were comfortable seven wicket winners, helping ease their relegation fears, knocking off the required 169 in only 30 overs, a first class knock of 46 from Mausam Thapa greatly helping their cause. Ashfaq Bashir was equally impressive, racking up 41.
In Grade 3, leaders Banchory beat Crathie by 85 runs, while Dunecht promotion hopes were dealt a blow by 2nd Grampian who won by 78 runs at the Cowdray Park.
The stage is now set for an exciting last two weeks of the season in all three Grades, plus the cut and thrust of three cup finals to come, not to mention a celebration of the game at Mannofield on Sunday 2nd September. I am happy and privileged to say I shall be present on all three Sundays
