Turriff Cup/ End of Season Wrap - 2018

Bon Accord made their all round experience count at the Peoples Park where they added the Turriff Cup to the Grade 1 title they won two weeks ago.
In the final Bon Accord hit 160 runs from their allocation of 15 overs before bowling Mannofield out for 95 in a one sided final in which Usman Khan won the man-of-the-match award for his unbeaten 53 for the Links side.
In the semi-finals, the winners were given a scare by Knight Riders who bowled them out for 97 but then collapsed to 86 all out. In the other last of the four game Mannofield posted 130 of which Indy Yahathugoda hit 53 and then bowled out Cults for 60.

Over the piece, Bon Accord proved to be the team of the season, although AGSFPs will be kicking themselves for failing to build on their splendid season, the previous year.

Knight Riders, will also be disappointed not to have realised their rich potential.

There were also signs of forthcoming challenges from Crescent in the same division, while Stoneywood-Dyce could well be in the mix for honours next time round.

Inverurie can also reflect on a good year in which they won the Aberdeenshire Cup, and with a better start to the season might well have been in the title race.

In Grade 2, Ellon Gordon proved they are of Grade 1 material, easing back into the top flight with something to spare. Gordonians should also be well capable of holding their own after their hard fought promotion run.

Banchory surged back into Grade 2, winning the troubled Grade 3 league with ease, while also picking up a double thanks in part to their juniors who were well backed by the thoughtful support of not least veteran Tim Wilkinson, and their hard hitting hero Sam Rotherham in the Reid Cup final.

Sam's devastating assault on the Portcullis bowling attack certainly gave a whole new meaning to the expression ''play it again Sam.''

But where there are winners, there are by definition losers, and to those teams who were relegated, I can only say good luck next year.

For me it has been a marvellous season, apart from some silly behind the scenes politics, which if allowed to fester on, will have a serious impact on the future of a local game already under threat.

I look forward to reporting on this great game next season, but would remind clubs, I am still waiting for your nominations for my Junior of the Year award to be made at this year's annual dinner on Friday 9th November.  Entries with the name of your nominee, and a small profile of their achievements must be with me by Monday 1st October at Jacksport@btinternet.com
