North-East Cricket Cheer - 2018

Now that winter is all too quickly spreading it’s all familiar blanket of cold around the area, it’s nice to report on something good, and positive about the game of cricket, taking place in warmer parts of the world.
Not only are England successfully wrapping up their three-match series in Sri Lanka, but we also have a young cricketer making her way in the world game, albeit on the other side of the globe.
Just in case you haven’t been following the fortunes of England’s women in the T20 World Cup, it may just have escaped your notice that Heather Knight’s young team, not only got to the final, but were helped along the way by a young lady, born and bred in Huntly.
Kirstie Gordon (22) a right handed bat, and left arm slow bowler, played her part, taking three wickets in one of the early games of the tournament, earning her the “man of the match” award in the process.
Kirstie is in fact well known to those at Cricket Scotland, having played in the qualifiers for Scotland before turning out for her adopted country. She currently plays for Loughborough, but one day, according to the young lady herself hopes to be back playing for Scotland in the not too distant future. In the meantime, she is happy to show off her silver medal, won in the West Indies.
If that doesn’t put a smile on your face on this first week of real winter chills, then I don’t know what will.
