Fingers Crossed for the Weekend by Jack Nixon

After the rains of last weekend which wiped out the entire cricket schedule, there will great relief among all three grades should there be some action this Saturday.
There is certainly no lack of quality on offer starting in Grade 1 where the top two teams clash at Rubislaw, ensuring that either Aberdeen Grammar or Knight Riders will lose their unbeaten record, giving third placed Inverurie the chance push into the title race.
But then the Kellands Park side will have to first see off considerable challenge of Crescent who it should be recalled gave Grammar a run for their money two weeks ago, losing out by only 20 runs.
Nothing should be taken for granted in these top of the table clashes with as pointed out last week by Grammar captain Rob Sweirgon much depending on the mind set of teams, while Inverurie skipper Chris Watson makes a case for fearing no one after their weekend double the previous week.
Good attitudes, allied to self belief win games, not to mention titles, and on that basis Knight Riders have in Somu Kumarasamy one of the best.
The same could be said of Nathan Thangaraj at Crescent, so in other words I am hedging my bets, and have certainly not written off the prospects of Bon Accord, although who could imagined nearing the month of June and the Bons not having won a game. They will certainly not have things all their way at the Allan Park on Saturday, now Aqeel Ajaz is back in charge of the Cults side.
Elsewhere in the top flight, newcomers Ellon Gordon will be keen to break their duck, and under the inspired leadership of Ben Webb will fancy their chances at home to Stoneywood - Dyce, while the other promoted side, ASI Gordonians might expect to get a good outcome away to Mannnofield.
In Grade 2, Methlick will be bidding to take advantage of leaders 2nd Aberdeen Grammar not being in action when the take on 2nd Knight Riders at Groats Road. Third placed Siyapa will also be making their promotion push at home to Aberdeen Super Kings. Banchory host a game with Grampian, giving Tim Wilkinson the opportunity to close in on that elusive target of 10,000 in Grades cricket. Fraserburgh attempt to get their first win of the season, but will find Stonehaven Thistle more interested in pushing into the top two of this very competitive league.
In Grade 3, the game of the day is undoubtedly at Balmoral where league leaders Crathie take on second placed Portcullis. At Lairds, 2nd Methlick entertain 2nd Gordonians, and finally 2nd Grampian take on Dunecht. I just hope the weather will allow a full programme to go ahead, I would after all like to be writing about action on the field, rather than commenting on the off the field activities.
