Thunder and lightning on Saturday brought the rain calculator in to play in a lot of games and deprived some late order batsmen of the chance to be heroes.

Cults was the scene of the biggest surprise of the day, where the home side batted batted through their 45 overs to post 159 for 8. Mauzzam Ali top scored with 46 before becoming one of 3 victims for the wily Chris Watson. Steve Morrison made 44 for Inverurie, but nobody else got in to double figures as Mauzzam took 4 for 20 before the rain calculator gave Cults a 20 run win. Inverurie drop off the top of the league to be replaced by AGSFPs who had a convincing 95 run rain calculator win over Stoneywood-Dyce. Seeing out the bowling of Jon Grant proved the recipe for success as 81 from Alex Keith and 51 from Fraser Proud helped AGSFPs to 217 as Mike Louw took 3 wickets to clean up the tail. Having failed with the bat, Karan Anand took 4 for 19 to knock the stuffing out of the SDCC reply, but a valiant unbeaten 37 from Martin Reid kept the match alive until the weather arrived.

Abhinav Kache hit a half century as Crescent dismissed Knight Riders for 168 off the final ball of the 45th over with Anjum Toor picking up 4 for 33. Nathan Thangaraj made 28 but nobody else could make more than 6 as Crescent slipped to a 99 run drubbing. Stuart Davies and Ben Webb were the top contributors with the bat as Ellon totalled 155 for 9 against Gordonians. The latter crumbled to 42 all out as Jonathan Barrett took 4 for 10. High total of the day went to Bon Accord who had centuries from Shakeel Ahmed and Akhlaq Bashir in their score of 355 for 5 against 9 man Mannofield, who must have initially been happy to remove Fazal Awan for a duck. Varinder Sood took 4 for 25 to scuttle out Mannofield for 63.

In Grade 2, Siyapa stretched their lead at the top without playing as Stonehaven couldn't raise a side. Mark Herbert was the star for Banchory as his 3 for 12 helped bowled out 2nd AGSFPs for 83. He followed this with an unbeaten 35 to complete an 8 wicket win. 4 for 31 from Chris Gospel reduced Grampian to 162 all out at Fraserburgh, and an unbeaten 33 from Stuart Flowerdew kept Fraserburgh ahead of the required rate as the rain calculator gave them a 25 run victory.

In Grade 3, 2nd Gordonians will have been content to have bowled out 2nd Grampian for 139, but they were on 41 for 6 as the weather intervened and they lost by 56 runs on the calculator. An undefeated 41 from Brian Anderson helped 2nd Methlick to a respectable 162 for 6 against Crathie, but Peter Cunningham carried his bat with 55 out of 100 for 2 before the rain calculator gave Crathie a 35 run win. The Portcullis v Dunecht match didn't finish without incident, but it did finish with a convincing 103 run rain calculator win for Portcullis. Dave Mitchell made 82 of the Portcullis total of 164 for 8 and Shovon Mostafa took 3 for 5 as Portcullis retain their narrow lead at the top of the table.

In the SPCU NE Championship, Gordonians lost their last 5 wickets for 9 runs in 16 balls against 2nd Forfarshire as they were all out for 148 at Countesswells. Graeme Garden marshalled the Forfs reply with an unbeaten 40 to give the visitors a surprise 15 run win when the rain calculator kicked in.

Rahul Chandu took 5 for 46 as Mannofield bowled out Dundee High for 200, but this was one of the remaining 4 matches that did not manage to play long enough for the rain calculator to give a result.

In the Eastern Premier League, it was another bad day for Aberdeenshire as they were beaten by Stewarts Melville. Bowled out for 135, Shire couldn't take enough wickets to get ahead on DLS before the weather sent them back up the road from Edinburgh. To make matters worse, Arbroath United had a more fruitful trip to Edinburgh with an easy DLS win over RH Corstorphine to widen the gap at the foot of the table. Carlton piled up 309 for 8 at Stoneywood-Dyce, who lost 3 wickets in reply before weather again curtailed the fixture, the home side losing by 68 runs on DLS.

The ECB Vitality under 15 finals day at Stirling on Sunday saw both Gordonians and Aberdeenshire lose their semi finals to Carlton and Watsonians. Gordonians ran favourites Carlton close, scoring 82 for 8 from their 17 overs. Ethan Powell took 3 for 17 for Gordonians as Carlton lost 7 wickets chasing down the total. Aberdeenshire made 83 for 8 against Watsonian who lost 3 wickets in reply. In the 3rd place play off, Gordonians took the spoils as they bowled out Shire for 75 and knocked off the runs for the loss of 1 wicket. Pranav Saravanan took 6 for 14 and made an unbeaten 32 for Gordonians. Carlton beat Watsonians by 4 runs in a thrilling final.
