REVIEW OF 27th / 28th JULY

It was all change at the top of Grade 1 this weekend with both Inverurie and Gordonians dropping points so Bon Accord are now in pole position.  Grammar came up against a stronger Gordonians team than they would have anticipated after the call off of their SPCU game.  Grammar were bowled out for 115 and were largely indebted to their captain Rob Swiergon who made 37.  Gordonians chased down the total losing 6 wickets in the process of which 5 were picked up by Fraser Proud who finished with impressive figures of 5 for 20 from his 10 overs.  Abrar Ahmed with 35 and Mayank Bhandari with 34 not out saw Gordonians home.  Bon Accord made short work of Ellon at the Links bowling them out for 43 with Akhlaq Bashir taking 5 for 16. 21 not out from Prashant Gopinathan saw Bon Accord to their target with 7 wickets remaining.  Knightriders defeated Inverurie by 17 runs at Kelland Park.  Their innings of 157 was largely thanks to good rear guard action from Poongkannan Palaniyandi 25, Bijin Vijayaraj 34* and Safee Peedikayil.  George Hadden was destroyed in chief for Inverurie with 4 for 22.  Inverurie did look like they were cruising to victory when Trevor Norval and Scott White were batting together although 3 wickets each from Vijay Vijapur and Safee Peedikayil got Knightriders over the line despite a fine 75 from Noval.  Mannofield picked up their 1st win of the season when they defeated Cults by 6 wickets at Harlaw.  4 wickets from Prashanth Srinivasan and 3 from Phil Wood restricted Cults to 101 then 66 not out from Grant Jamieson on his old stomping ground saw Mannofield home.  Stoneywood and Crescent served up the closest game of the weekend with Crescent prevailing by 1 run.  Crescent amassed 221 for 9 from their allotted innings with Geet Grover and Aftab Hamid both scoring half centuries while Mike Louw and Andrew Rayner picked up 7 wickets between them.  George Robertson batted through the whole innings carrying his bat with 82 and Jack Lambley scored 49 as Stoneywood fell agonisingly 1 run short.

In Grade 2 Grampian closed the gap on Siyapa with a 38 run victory against their rivals.  Grampian scored 146 all out from their 45 overs with Josino Aluvathingal making 55.  In reply Siyapa were bowled out for 108 with Gopinathan taking 4 for 15 and Johnson Varghese picking up 3 for 21.  It was runs a plenty for Methlick at home to Banchory, Stuart Anderson leading the way with 74 while Adam Verseema and Sharath Kallepu both made 50's in a huge 264 for 5.  In reply Banchory could only muster 110 thanks to 46 from Sam Rotherham as spin twins Colin Addison with 3 for 18 and Mike Bremaneson with 2 for 1 doing the damage for Methlick.  Super Kings snuck over the line by 3 wickets to spare against Stonehaven.  Stonehaven batted first and compiled 153 for 3 in their innings with Ray Van Gissel scoring 52, in reply Rama Mantha scoring an undefeated 74 saw Super Kings to their target despite good bowling from Bryan Snelling and Clive Hinchliffe sharing 5 wickets.

The Portcullis charge to Grade 2 doesn't appear to be showing any sign of slowing down as they hammered 2nd Methlick.  2nd Methlick were dismissed for just 36 with Ross McKenzie picking up a 5 for then chasing down the total with 8 wickets to spare although Shahid Choudry did remove openers David Forbes and Ronnie Falconer as Portcullis won by 8 wickets.  Dunecht picked up a much needed win against 2nd Gordonians.  Matt Witz leading the way with 74 of the 197 that Dunecht made and despite 39 from Gerry O'Brien and 34 from Lewis Guy Gordonians fell 56 runs short of the total.  Steve Derrett had a handy game with 2 for 28 on the back of 21 with the bat.

The Aberdeenshire Cup final line up is now known and Inverurie and Gordonians will meet on the 25th of August at Mannofield after semi final wins against Bon Accord and Cults.  A Trevor Norval batting masterclass of 88 along with support from Scott White who made 40 helped propel Inverurie to 195 for 8 from their 40 overs.  In reply despite the early loss of the talented Fazal Awan Bon Accord rebuilt with a good partnership between Ash Bashir with 46 and Haroon Ahmed with 48 which almost saw Bon Accord home but the ask was just too much for the experienced pair of Taqueer Malik and Mac Ahmed against the bowling of Fraser Lawrance and Scott White as Inverurie won by 2 runs.  It was a far more straightforward game at Allan Park as Gordonians blew the home side away as Cults could only make 62 runs.  Chamila Perera took 3 for 6 and Talwinder Singh took 3 for 11 with Himanchu Bhardwaj adding some respectability to the score with 24.  In reply former Cults batsman Taj Singh scored 27 not out as Gordonians made it home with 7 wickets to spare despite 3 for 26 from Abbas Hamid.

The final of the Bon Accord Cup is also now known where Siyapa will meet 2nd Grammar on the 11th of August at Inverurie.  Grammar have Chris Clelland to thank as he scored 72 of their 140 total while captain Aman Sood also chipped in with 46.  Colin Addison picking up another couple of wickets.  Unfortunately for Methlick their chase didn't get off to the best of starts and despite 20's from Stuart Anderson, Tom Acton and Mark Woodhouse there was no substantial innings to get them close to Grammars imposing total finishing 40 runs short.  Good bowling from Sam Knudson helped apply the breaks at the start then Paul Norwood rolled back the years with more wickets.  It was a low scoring game between Siyapa and Super Kings with Siyapa booking their place in the final with 2 wickets to spare.  Set 72 runs to win Siyapa made it home with 3 balls and 2 wickets to spare in what must have been another nerve jangling semi final.
