Grades Results 24th May 2008
A dramatic day in the Thistle Sports grades saw Cults and Bon Accord both lose their previously unbeaten records at the top of Grade 1, while Caledonian bounced back from their recent woes to tie with Banchory, 2nd Cults recorded their first victory at Grade 1 level, and in Grade 4 there was an undefeated double century.
For 1st Cults only Steve Morrison recorded a significant contribution with the bat as Jonathan Barrett with four wickets and Scott White with three, following on his joint top score of 36, combined to dismiss the current chmpions at the Gordon Park.
At Links meanwhile, a knock of 60 from opener Alex Keith gave Stonehaven a solid platform from which to challenge Bon Accord's total of 200 for eight; while at the Burnett Park Saraswath was again in form with bat and ball as Caledonian tied with Banchory.
Principal beneficiaries of defeat for the top two were Kintore, who despite losing seven wickets had enough in reserve to pin local rivals Inverurie ever more firmly into the relegation zone; while a century from B Surrah for Mannofield was not enough to see his side avoid defeat in a high-scoring encounter at the Allan Park.
In the race to go up to the top flight meanwhile, St Ronald took useful points from their victory over Grammar FPs, while Gordonians with 92 from Martin Tremlett showed that they could also be one of the teams in the end of season shake up, as five from 25 from skipper Blair Thomson and four wickets from Richard Watt saw them dismiss Kemnay for just 51.
2nd Kintore continue to set the pace in Grade 3 following their latest victory over Dunecht, while 2nd Banchory fell just short of defeating Crescent.
In Grade 4, the highlight was an undefeated 212 for 2nd Mannofield's J.Dickenson, as his side rattled up 315 against 2nd Dunecht, in a game played in the best of spirits; while Portcullis, reinforced by the transfer of former Cults player Rahul, just sneaked home against 2nd St Ronald; and 2nd Gordonians, with a sound innings and bowling from promising juniors Steve Devlin and Scott Rowell respectively, recorded a nine wicket victory over 2nd Queens Cross.
