Duthie Park Oral History Project
An oral history project has been launched by Aberdeen City Council as one of the many events being organised to commemorate the 125th anniversary of the Duthie Park on Sunday, 14 September, 2008.
The council’s oral history team wants to hear from people who would like to share their memories of the Duthie Park, which will be recorded and used as part of an exhibition at the park later in the year.
The City Council’s oral history officer, Arlene Forman said: "All memories are important and these might come from people who have used the park for leisure purposes or from people who worked there. We would love to hear from as many people as possible."
One period of history which the team can find little information on is the Duthie Park during World War II. The team would like to hear from anyone who can shed some light on this. They would like to know if it remained a leisure facility or if it was used for military purposes.
In addition to people’s memories the oral history team would also welcome any old photographs that people are willing to share of the park. Photographs will be scanned into the computer system and people’s original pictures will be returned to them. The photographs will be stored on disk along with the oral recordings so they can be heard by future generations.
