Vintage Cricket Carnival - a report

Ex Portcullis skipper David Bowie and team mate Alan Dobey joined the Scottish contingent at the Vintage Cricket Carnival earlier this month...

Alan and I were concerned that the Ex & Current Grades boys would not be up to the standard of the other members of The Tartan Ton (as in weight!!!) who represented Scotland at the festival, but as it turned out we made significant contributions. Dobey outscored, out bowled and out caught his former skipper, which made it a long trip back. (You know that I would not be so ungracious as to mention that I bowled and batted further up the order!)

Our first Game was against the New Zealand Fingletoads, captained by ex NZ Test player Vaughn Brown. We Scored 181 with me scoring 7 and Dobey double that. I took the first two wickets to fall and Dobey snaffled two of the middle order and took a smart catch at short cover. They scored the winning run off the second last ball of a great game.

The middle game was rained off and as suspected the final opponents of ex Worcester County players were much too strong for us. Of our total of 133 for 9 we contributed 43 (Dobey 24 and myself 19) Dobey took the only wicket to fall.

It was a great festival and the Scots contributed greatly to the social element with one of the boys getting locked out of his room in the scudd on final night after mistaking room door for toilet.

By the way Joel Garner is very large. I nearly got a crick in my neck looking up to him.

The next festival is March 2010 in Capetown. Why dont the Grades send a team?
