Time for Change?

As I am sure most of you will remember Cricket Scotland undertook a consultation with clubs in 2005 in regard to the structure of our domestic game.  I have attached for your information a copy of the documentation from this review. Following the consultation, clubs voted for the status quo with a national league of three divisions with feeder leagues underneath this. It was agreed at this time that no further changes would be proposed for five years. Therefore the earliest time to implement any changes would be for the start of the 2010 or 2011 season.

This issue was raised at the SNCL Forum in October and it was proposed that a group was brought together to start the process of looking forward.  Cricket Scotland is very keen to re-open the debate about the best structure for the domestic leagues in order that clubs have the appropriate levels of competition for their club members whilst being able to prioritise the longer term development of their clubs.

To this end, our Board have approved an initial ‘think tank’ to be set up to investigate the issues and make some initial recommendations back to all our member clubs. How this group moves forward and how many times it will meet will be led by the discussion we have at our first meeting. I very much hope the discussion/debate/ideas will be lively and raise the many issues that need looked at before we can properly address our domestic structure.

The membership of this group will be made up of representatives from the Competitions Committee and the different leagues in the SNCL, representatives of the four feeder leagues, and representatives of leagues currently outwith these but who play a substantial amount of cricket and have a definite vested interest in discussing any future structure. Leagues included in this category are the North of Scotland Cricket Association and the Aberdeen Grades.

I would like to invite you, or your nominated representative for a feeder league/association, to an initial discussion meeting on Wednesday 28th of January 2009 at 7pm.  This meeting will be held in Perth. Cricket Scotland will cover the expenses of those attending by car and provide rail passes (through our partnership with Scotrail) for those who wish to attend by train.

I would be grateful if you could let me know if either yourself (or a person nominated by your association) can attend the meeting.  I will confirm exact venue and format for the meeting in due course.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Regards

Roddy
