With the Grades season approaching the halfway mark the Grades Tables are starting to take shape.
In Grade 1 Bon Accord continue with their unblemished winning streak by setting a total 222 which was ably supported by the bowling of Messer Mirza (4-15) and Malik (4-49) this proving too big a task for Banchory to chase. Gordonians continue to looking for their 1
st win as they were comfortably beaten by Cults despite the bowling efforts of Gordonians new boy B. Gopinathan (5-42) with pick of the cults batting from A. Saxena (57) and K. Laghate (56) supported with bowling from M. Jadhav (5-51). Meanwhile at Mineralwell Park the surprisingly low Stonehaven total (64) was overhauled by the Kellands Park visitors Inverurie with most of the damage done by the bowling from R. Evan (4-14) and G. Coutts (2-6). Despite C. Laird’s 41, Kintore lost to Ellon whose batsmen J. Barrett (48no) and K. Macreddie (44no) narrowly missed out on their half centuries. At Kings College the newly laid artificial wicket favoured the visitors Mannofield who were easily able to overtake the St Ronald target (133) with man-of-the-match performance from C. Burnett taking 5-38 and scoring 52no.
In Grade 2 Methlick crushed newly promoted 2
nd Kintore who are still looking for their first win with S. Murphy (45no) just missing out on his half century. Down at the Balmoral Estate despite the innings for Crathie from D. Smith (103no) and R. McEwan (73), the Caledonian batsmen H. Saraswat (64) and A. Smith (65) helped make hay of the Crathie total (201). At Duthie Park Artisans woes continue as they too look for their first win, this time loosing out to 2
nd Cults with pick of the batting for Artisans from C. Naidv (41) and bowling for 2
nd Cults from S. Morrison (6-35). At Fraserburgh the favourable batting track allowed the Queen Cross visitors to set a total (216) that the home side were easily able to defend with pick of the batting for Queens Cross from O. Wood (58) and K. Rae (52) and for Fraserburgh C. Bowie (66). The encounter between 2
nd Banchory and AGSFP has been postponed due to flooding at Burnett Park.
In Grade 3 Crescent’s total (93) was easily overhauled by 2
nd Methlick as were the very low totals set by Academy (39) and 2
nd Stonehaven (27) by Anchorians and 2
nd Gordonians respectively, the low totals were attributed to the outstanding bowling performances for 2
nd Gordonians from S. Rowell (8-5) and for Anchorians from C. Forbes (6-13). The Sports day at Cowdry Park forced the encounter between Dunecht and Ellon to be postponed to a later date. Turriff gained valuable points without playing with Kemnay scratching.
In Grade 4 Despite the bowling efforts of I. Lumsden (5-4) for 2
nd Queens Cross and with Portcullis who a few weeks ago lost a number of their key players, managed to for the first time in many years hold on for a draw. The St Ronald low total (74) was not enough to stop the young Mannofield team, with notable batting and bowling for Mannofield from youngster F. Proud (21no) and M. Johnston (3-9). The Huntly and Stoneywood-Dyce encounter has been postponed to next Saturday 13/06/09.
