Cinnamon Grades Results 4th/5th July 2009

Bon Accord inflicted a crushing defeat on Gordonians by first setting a mammoth total (355) led by the batting of F. Awan (198) who so narrowly missed out on his maiden double century and supported by R. Dhiman 51 and then skittled out the Gordonians side for 77 helped by the bowling of S. Hussain (4-22). Over at Gordon Park the home team total (160) was not enough as the Mannofield visitors cruised past the Ellon total with D. Lawson (46no) missing out on his half century. Cults returned to winning form as they set a total (240) proving too much for the Mineralwell Park home team and despite the batting and bowling effort of A. Keith (88no and 3-72) were dismissed for 135. The Burnett Park hosts total (135) was easily overtaken by the Inverurie visitors with notable batting and bowling for Inverurie from G. Coutts (42) and G. Hadden (5-40) respectively and for batting for Banchory from S. Hussan (42) and B. Howard (47). In town at Kings College, St Ronald continued to look for their first win as the Castle Road visitors, Kintore set a total (233) led by the batting of G. Prosser (61), D. Grayson (60) and C. Laird (57no) that proved too much for the home team.

In Grade 2 Artisans held out for a draw against the AGSFP visitors as did Caledonian when they visited the Fraserburgh side with notable batting for AGSFP from veteran J. Moir (44) and batting for Fraserburgh from M. Oldham (87) and for Caledonian both batting and bowling from G. Cordiner (51 and 4-60). The 2nd Banchory total (176) led by the batting of R. Perry (54) and J. Miller (48no) who narrowly missed out on his half century was too much for the struggling 2nd Kintore side as they were dismissed for 93. Over at Allan Park, despite the batting for Methlick from S. Buchan (51) the Methlick total (164) was not enough as it was restricted by the bowling for 2nd Cults from G. Singh (6-29) and then the batting from P. Gill (42no) as 2nd Cults comfortably cruised past the Methlick total. Down at Balmoral Castle Crathie’s hopes for promotion took a knock-back this week as they lost to Queens Cross allowing the visitors to nip into 2nd position, with pick of the batting for Crathie from P. Cunningham (59) and M. Bestwick (41) and for Queens Cross batting from M. Shepherd (84no).

Anchorians continued their dominance of Grade 3 as they notched up another victory this time at the expense of 2nd Ellon with most of the damage done by the batting and bowling for Anchorians from man-of-the-match C. Ravi (57 and 6-36). 2nd Gordonians look set to meet their 1st XI in Grade 2 as they comfortably beat Crescent. Turriff’s mighty total (260) led by the batting for Turriff from N. Nadagouta (94) and P. Shah (90) and bowling from N. Smith (4-24), helped move them away from the relegation spots as it proved too much to chase down for the Dunecht visitors despite the batting effort of K. Cowin (61). Over at the Lairds ground the home side collapsed chasing a 2nd Stonehaven total (148) with most of the damage done by the bowling for 2nd Stonehaven from B. Snelling (7-16 inc a hat-trick) who also chipped in with 23 runs off the bat.

In Grade 4 the 0.5 percent difference between the top 3 teams took its toil firstly on 2nd Queens Cross as they were knocked off pole position when they tied in their game against 2nd St Ronald, despite the bowling performances for 2nd Queens Cross from A. Swan (8-65) and for 2nd St. Ronald from M. Khosla (5-20) and G. Row (4-44). Secondly the remaining 2 teams on the 0.5 percent difference played against each other with 2nd AGSFP getting the better of Portcullis moving AGSFP into pole position whilst pushing Portcullis into 6th position, this really is a very close promotion battle with any of the top 6 of the table capable of promotion. Over at the Sheddocksley C. Moir (36 and 3-32) inflicted most of the damage to the mix of youngsters and not so young 2nd Mannofield team as their total (173) was passed by the Stoneywood-Dyce side with 3 wickets in hand, with notable batting for 2nd Mannofield from G. Johnston (42) and J. Niven (41) and bowling from 14 years old F. Proud (3-38). The postponed encounter between Huntly and 2nd St Ronald took place on Sunday with St Ronald setting a blistering total of 234 runs off 35 overs before being bowled out and Huntly running out of wickets and were only 30 runs short of beating the 2nd St Ronald total with pick of the batting for St Ronald from M. Khosla (102) and G. Rao (52) and for Huntly batting and bowling from man-of-the-match D. Morrison (71 and 5-61). In the postponed Turriff Cup 2nd round encounter Queens Cross scratched allowing Ellon through to the Semi-finals scheduled for 29th August (Reserve date 5th September) where they will meet Cults at Allan Park.
