With a full programme of local cup semi-finals on Sunday as well as the re-arranged semi-final of the Small Clubs Cup, as well as a full programme of league games on Saturday which are the reverse of those washed out earlier in the season, everyone will be holding their breath for fine weather in the Grades this weekend.
At the top of Grade 1 it looks increasingly a battle for second place, as Bon Accord maintain their unblemished record in all competitions, with Cults hoping to consolidate their grip on second place at home to Kintore. Bottom two sides, Gordonians and St Ronald, meantime meet at Countesswells, with just three draws to show for their joint efforts this season.
In Grade 2 Grammar FPs walkover against 2nd Kintore last weekend has left them in top spot, while the Castle Park side appear destined for an early return to Grade 3; though Grammar face a tricky home fixture against Crathie, which could allow Queens Cross to strengthen their own challenge for promotion away to 2nd Banchory.
Results in Grade 3 make it look that there could be two sides from the same club in both Grades 2 and 4 next season, as 2nd Gordonians continue to pursue Anchorians in the race for the league title, while Dunecht face the prospect of joining their second string in Grade 4. St Ronald take on 2nd Grammar in Saturday’s key game at that level, with 2nd Queens Cross poised to take top spot if the Rubislaw side slip up.
Sunday’s re-arranged Small Clubs game against Dollar means that the Ellon-Bon Accord Aberdeenshire Cup semi-final is postponed, but Cults take on Gordonians at the Allan Park in the other semi-final. The Bon Accord Cup semi-finals meanwhile see Queens Cross conceding ground advantage to Fraserburgh for the right to play 2nd Cults or 2nd Banchory, whose semi-final is on the 26th., while in the Reid Cup Gordonians play Ellon and Stonehaven take on Methlick.
