Cinnamon Grades Preview 1st/2nd August 2009

With the monsoon conditions of the past three weeks having laid waste much of the cricket programme for the second half of July, everyone will be hoping for a change of luck as the final scheduled month of the season begins; and the second or third attempts are made to resolve some outstanding cup finals and semi-finals.

In addition to a full league programme in Grades 1 to 3 Saturday sees the final of the first of the local knockout competitions, as 2nd Queens Cross take on 2nd St Ronald in the final of the Johnston Rose Bowl, with a close result in prospect.  Following the collapse of a drain on the main square at Counteswells and consequent move of 2nd Gordonians Grade 3 game against Turriff, the final has had to be re-located to the upper square at Sheddocksley, at least granting Queens Cross their desire of playing on a grass wicket; while Stoneywood-Dyce take on 2nd Mannofield in a re-arranged League 4 fixture on the lower square.

Elsewhere Bon Accord will hope to maintain their 100% record away to Kintore at the Castle Park; while Cults could face a tricky encounter away to Inverurie at Kellands.  Mannofield take on Gordonians at the Links, while Ellon are at home to Stonehaven, and St Ronald travel to Banchory.

In Grade 2 Grammar FPs will look to maintain top spot, despite being away to Caledonian, while Queens Cross with home advantage should prove too stong for a struggling Artisans side.

Grade 3 leaders Anchorians are away to 2nd Stonehaven, while at the foot Kemnay and Dunecht meet in a fixture which may have come too late to avoid both sides dropping into the bottom division.

Sunday will see further attempts to resolve the small Clubs Cup Final at Freuchie between Bon Accord and Rossie Priory; and the local semi-finals between Cults and Gordonians, Queens Cross and Fraserburgh, and 2nd Stonehaven and 2nd Methlick in the various local competitions.
