World Vintage Cricket Carnival 2010An Invitation:
The 5th World Vintage Cricket Carnival for players over the age of 35 of whatever skills, experience, age or agility is taking place in Cape Town between 21 and 27 March, 2010. Teams and players are coming from Australia, New Zealand, England, Ireland, India, Barbados, USA, Canada and Bermuda and of course our hosts, South Africa. We are looking for more players and teams or part teams to take part as we have more host teams than visitors. There are plenty of Cape Town clubs lining up to host visitors and to ensure they enjoy a fabulous South African experience. If you, members of your club or team wish to be a part of a celebration of cricket played in the spirit and manner that it should be please get in touch with us. Brothers Sports in Cape Town have set up some great packages for us for the week with prices for share twin accommodation in excellent hotels ranging from ZAR9,100 (that’s GBP720) for the following: · 6 nights accommodation at Protea Breakwater Lodge including full breakfasts. · 3 games of cricket on outstanding club pitches-2 of which will be followed by a hosted braai. · 2 major functions-an Opening Party at Newlands Cricket Ground and a Finale Dinner at Western Province Cricket Club. · 1 souvenir gift pack for all participants. · Special tours and attractions available to supporters and non-players. · Fun and friendship on and off the pitch with like minded cricketers from all parts of the world. Just one direct flight away and a great way to prepare for the 2010 season. Vintage Cricket Carnivals have previously been held in Adelaide (2003), Perth (2005), Barbados (2006), Stratford-upon-Avon (2008) and now coming to Cape Town. Over 100 teams have been involved and many are coming back to Cape Town to continue to develop international cricketing friendships. Funds derived from Vintage Cricket Carnival are distributed to local cricket clubs and charities and so far clubs in Adelaide and Perth have benefited as well as recent donations having been made to the Sir Ian Bothan Leukemia Walk Fund and the Lords Taverners. The nominated charity for the Cape Town Carnival is the Bennie and Shirley Rabinowitz Cricket Trust for the benefit of disadvantaged cricketers and grassroots support of cricket per scholarships, coaching courses, provision of equipment and building of facilities particularly in the townships. Vintage Cricket is fortunate to have the support of many cricket people including-President of Vintage Cricket the renowned Barry Richards; Patron of the Cape Town Carnival and past South African Captain Clive van Ryneveld. Supporting the Carnival is the Western Province Cricket Association through their respected CEO, Andre Odendaal and hosting the Carnival is the Western Province Cricket Club and their Chairman, Neil Watson.
