Grades Results 1st May 2010

With Isolated showers and the temperature plummeting well below this summer sport; in Grade 1 Ellon visited neighbours Kintore who they bowled out for 83 with most of the damage inflicted by R. Greenfield (6-21) ably supported by S. White (3-19) and comfortably reaching their target with 7 wickets in hand (85-4). The Alan park side Cults, visited Banchory where new boy R. Maghani (5-26) restricted the home side to 122 which the visitors comfortably overtook with the batting performances from S. Devadas (51) and K. Laghate (66). Last years champions Bon Accord hosted newly promoted Queens Cross who are still finding their feet in Grade 1 as they crashed out at 39 with bowling from Messrs T. Malik (4-25) and N. Mirza (2-3). The other promoted side AGSFP’s also suffered defeat as they were skittled out for 61 by a strengthened Stonehaven side with bowling by new boy G. Vanderrout (6-22) ably supported by C. Hinchcliffe (3-15). The Inverurie v Mannofield encounter was washed out as the rain flooded the pitch at Inverurie.

In Grade 2 the newly amalgamated side Cults-Artisans (2nd Cults & Artisans) restricted the Banchory visitors to 127 and despite a good all-round performance from T. Wilkinson (58 and 2-30) was not enough as the home side comfortably reached their target (129-4). On Duthie Park 2 the newly promoted Crescent side struggled despite a good all round performance from R. Swabey (66 and 2-36) as Methlick reached the required runs (141-5) with batting performances from S. Murphy (41) and S. Anderson (28). Over at Countesswells the Gordonians side with batting performances from T. Butt (47 not out) and I. Yahathugoda (27 not out) supported by the bowling of B. Thomson (3-24) and B. Watt (2-14) proved too much for the newly promoted visitors Anchorians as their total (121) despite notable batting from G. O’Brien (46 not out), was comfortably passed by the home side with 8 wickets in hand. Up at the Broch the Fraserburgh total (215-5) with batting performances from M. Oldham (73), M. Ironside (46) and C. Bowie (46) proved too much for the Balmoral side visitors as they were bowled out for 75 with A. Shore (44 not out) left stranded for Crathie, both F. Laurence and J. Clark shared the Fraserburgh wickets 4-5 and 4-28 respectively. The Caledonian v St. Ronald encounter at Duthie Park 1 was, perhaps prematurely, called off in anticipation of the pitch not drying out in time.

In Grade 3 out at the Lairds 2nd Methlick hosted the Duthie Park visitors Academy who set a relatively low target (103) with most of the damage inflicted by the bowling of T. Duffy (5-34), but the home side failed to capitalise on the low target as they were bowled out for 78. Over at Gordon Park in the reverse fixture of both their 1st teams, the 2nd Ellon target (221-4) set by the batting of B. Fuller (69) and new boy K. Haseeb (55) proved too much for the 2nd Kintore side as they were dismissed for 63. Out at Sheddocksley, perhaps colder than the north pole, entertained 2nd St. Ronald and 2nd Gordonians sides with St. Ronald getting the better of the Countesswells team as they over took the 180 target. Across town at Harlaw the 2nd Queens Cross side who are also struggling with promotion blues lost out to the Cowdry Estate side Dunecht. Next door the other promoted side 2nd AGSFP’s bounced back from their defeat last week as they passed the 2nd Stonehaven visitors total (119-8 off 46 overs) to record their first win.

The Only Match played in Grade 4 was hosted by Stoneywood-Dyce at Duthie Park 3 who entertained the Turriff visitors whose total of 153 for 8 off 46 overs was easily overhauled by the hosts with man-of the-match performance from C. Moir (107 not out and 3-39). All remaining matches were rain effected or postponed.
