On a damp North East weekend, in the Grade 1 fixture, the pole position holders Bon Accord took on Mannofield at the Links with Mannofield setting a total (182-8 off 44 overs) helped by the batting from D. Lawson (43) which the Bon Accord side comfortably passed (185-3 off 33 overs) led by the batting from N. Mirza (64) and A. Win (57 not out), with most of the bowling damage done for the Bon Accord side from T. Malik (4-38) and F. Awan (3-52). Over at Rubislaw AGSFP’s slumped to a low total (85 off 30 overs) which the Banchory visitors didn’t take too long to pass (87-3 off 27 overs). Next door at Harlaw, the Ellon visitors total (153-8 off 42 overs) was far too much for the Queens Cross side, who are still struggling to find a win, to chase as they collapsed to a lowly total (30 off 21 overs) with much of the bowling damage for Ellon from R. Wade (5-3). Out at Castle Road the Inverurie visitors total (177-5 off 46 overs) led by the batting from M. Strachan (67) proved not enough as the Kintore home team chased down their total with notable batting from A. Nalam (64 not out) and G. Prosser (63). Across at Alan Park the Cults total (235-5 off 42 overs) led by the batting from K. Laghate (77) and A. Induchudan (72 not out) was too much to chase down for the Stonehaven visitors, restricted by the bowling from M. Javaid (6-22 including a hat-trick), as they were bowled out (160 off 37 overs). These results now leave Bon Accord out in pole position with a 6 percent lead and the chasing pack Ellon and Cults separated by only 0.1 percent, although 14 percent behind are occupied by Stonehaven and Banchory who are separated only by a 0.4 percent margin.
In Grade 2 at Duthie Park the Caledonian side struggled to set a big enough total (105 off 35 overs) for Anchorians to chase despite a stubborn innings from A. Senthil (43) were restricted mostly by the bowling for Anchorians from A. Natarajan (4-31) and P. Malireddy (2-14). Down at Balmoral the Crescent visitors total (96 off 37 overs) was easily chased down by Crathie led by the batting from T. Summers (49 not out) and bowling from R. McAra (4-27) and M. Bestwick (3-19). Back up the road at Burnett Park the 2nd Banchory home side struggled (118 off 45 overs), despite the bowling effort from J. Millar (4-35) to contain the St. Ronald run rate as the visitors fired up a total (229-7 off 40 overs) led by the batting & bowling from V. Bode (86 and 2-10) and batting from D. Miller (64). At Countesswells the Cults-Artisans total (185 off 46 overs) proved too much for the Gordonians side to chase down and had to settle for a draw (132-7) with both sides taking 20 points each. Out of town at the Lairds the Methlick total (163 of 45 overs) led by the batting from S. Kennedy (39) and S. Murphy (36) was too big an ask for the Fraserburgh visitors to chase down or hold out for a draw as the home side winkled out the last wicket with 4 overs to spare.
In Grade 3 at the Countesswells artificial wicket the Dunecht visitors total (174 off 45 overs) seemed very gettable for the 2
nd Gordonians side, but some inspired all round performances from both E. Hewitt (40 and 5-59) and S. Roberts (55 and 2-11) resulted in a very exciting finish as the home side lost their last wicket requiring only 5 runs to win off 8 overs. Over at Mineralwell Park the 2
nd Kintore visitors were destroyed by the 2
nd Stonehaven home side as they were bowled out for the lowest total (21) of the weekend. Meanwhile over at Gordon Park the 2
nd Ellon home side also slumped to a lowly total (33 off 13 overs) which the 2
nd AGSFP’s visitors made hard work of chasing down, as their progress was hampered by the bowling efforts for 2
nd Ellon from S. Middleton (4-8) and G. Hede (2-23), but eventually reaching the required runs (34-7 off 11 overs). The encounters between Academy v 2
nd Queens Cross and 2
nd St. Ronald v 2
nd Methlick resulted with 2
nd Queens Cross and 2
nd Methlick scratching against their respective opponents.
In Grade 4 out at Bogbeth Park, the Stoneywood-Dyce visitors set a total (144-8 off 45 overs) led by the batting & Bowling from C. Moir (89 and 3-28) which, the Kemnay home side managed to chase down with just 3 overs to spare (146-7 off 42 overs) led by an excellent all round performance by youngsters Michael Fyffe (69 and 2-34) and bowling from his brother Andrew Fyffe (2-22) as they continue to cling onto pole position. Back in town at Duthie Park, the Portcullis total (177-9 off 45 overs) led by half centuries from A. Bryce (50) and K. Nair (52 and 3-49) must have seemed defendable against the Knightriders, but with some quick fire batting from the visitors led by V. Ramswamy (41) managed to chase down the Portcullis total in the 37th over. The rain played its part in the Huntly v Turriff match as it poured down. The 2nd Dunecht and 3rd Gordonians match was postponed to Sunday which was also washed out.
On Sunday, in the Aberdeenshire Cup quarter finals as well as all rearranged matches were all washed out. In the Bon Accord Cup Fraserburgh comfortably beat the Crathie visitors. Fraserburgh will now face either Methlick, Cults-Artisans or Crescent on the 4th July. Bon Accord made short work with their Small Clubs Cup encounter with Fochabers setting a 265 off 35 overs target which the visitors never looked to chase as they were skittled out for 71.
