Despite the persistent drizzly rain over the North East a number of fixtures were completed. In Grade 1 out at Gordon Park the Cults side visitors took no chances as they racked up a 282 for 5 total off 46 overs led by the batting of K. Laghate 85 and A. Ajazi 73 not out, in reply, the Ellon home side never really got going, as they were bowled out for 123, despite the batting effort from C. Wolrige-Gordon (40) with much of the bowling damage caused for the visitors by R. Meghani (5-24). In the City the Queens Cross side must have thought finally, they had a good chance of a win as they set a target of 181 for 8 declaring at 40 overs, led by the batting from skipper J. Garner (54) and A. Russell (46), but the in-form Kintore side visitors reached the target (185-6) comfortably within 43 overs led by the batting from C. Laird (55) and A. Stalker (47), with notable bowling for Kintore from R. Walker (4-34). Back out of town at Burnett Park the Banchory home side total (180-6) led by the batting from C. Mason (48 not out) and C. James (47) proved too much for the Inverurie side to chase down as they fizzled out at 90 off 36 overs with much of the bowling damage from skipper S. Hasan (4-15) ably supported by J. Miller (3-10). The AGSFP’s v Bon Accord encounter was called off before starting the match, with the Mannofield v Stonehaven encounter eventually being abandoned.
In Grade 2, the top of the table side St. Ronald blasted a total (245 for 1 off 26 overs) led by an undefeated century from S. Haider (131 not out) and good all-round performance from E. Theron (70 not out and 3-12), that proved too much for the bottom of the table Crescent side to defend, despite the batting effort from A. Pewekar (62) and were eventually bowled out for 117 off 57 overs. Cults-Artisans v Methlick; Arrowdawn Gordonians v 2nd Banchory and Crathie v Anchorians matches were called off early in the day with Caledonian v Fraserburgh match being eventually abandoned.
In Grade 3, the 2nd Methlick home side total (94), restricted by the bowling for the 2nd Ellon visitors from B. Gardner (5-32) ably supported by B Fuller (3-10), was not enough as the 2nd Ellon visitors comfortably reached their target led by an undefeated half-century from K. Montgomery (50 not out), despite the bowling effort from M Bremaneson (4-17). At Duthie Park an 8 man Academy side took on the top of the table 2nd St. Ronald side with the Academy home side setting a total (276 for 6 off 46) led by the undefeated batting from skipper S. Derrett (97 not out) and a half-century from J. Singh (56), but with too many holes to plug in the field the 2nd St. Ronald visitors reached their target (279 for 6 off 37 overs), despite the bowling effort from S. Bedi (5-74). Out at the Cowdry Estate the Dunecht home side total (127 for 9 off 46 overs) restricted by the 2nd AGSFP’s visitors bowling from J. Davey (5-24) was not enough as the visitors comfortably reached the required runs led by an undefeated half-century from R. Fryer (52 not out) and B. Frizzel (43). The remaining 2 fixtures 2nd Gordonians v 2nd Stonehaven and 2nd Kintore v 2nd Queens Cross, resulted in walk-overs as 2nd Stonehaven and 2nd Queens Cross scratched their fixtures respectively. This now leaves 2nd Queens Cross perilously close to all their matches being declared null and void if they do not complete five of their remaining six fixtures.
In Grade 4, the Kemnay side, who are the current holders of the runner-up spot, entertained the Turriff side who set a target (209 for 7) led by the batting from A. Mirashi (81) and M. Soper (65 not out) that proved too much for the Kemnay side as they were skittled out for 57, despite effort from both R. Chandu (9 and 4-52) M. Fyffe (26 and 3-58). The 2nd Mannofield v 2nd Dunecht and 3rd Gordonians v Knightriders matches were called off early in the day. The Stoneywood-Dyce v Portcullis match has been postponed to 29th August 2010.
On Sunday, in the Aberdeenshire Cup Quarter-Final the Kintore total (165) led by a half-century from C. Laird was never going to be enough on the hard Abeerdeenshire ground as the Mannofield home side comfortably reached the total (166 for 1) led by undefeated half-centuries from A. Mitchell (64 not out) and S. Naythakumaran (56 not out). The Mannofield side are now through to the semi-finals on 25th July where they will face the Bon Accord side.
Down at St. Andrews in the semi-final of the Small Clubs Cup Bon Accord set a total of 201 led by the batting from N. Mirza (59), S. Vijapurapu (56) and A. Win (40) which the St. Andrews Staff home side never looked to chase down and settled to see out the overs ending with a total of 126 for 6 with notable batting for the St. Andrews side from S. Franklands (51 not out) and bowling from P. Jess (4-59) and bowling for the Bon Accord side from V. Reddy (3-38) and N. Mirza (2-17). Bon Accord will now meet the Glasgow based side Victoria at Falklands (Fyfe) in the final next Sunday.
