An eight-wicket win for Inverurie over local rivals Kintore looks to have come too late to preserve their Grade 1 status as Grammar FPs, led once again by performances from John Eagles and Jeremy Moir, took full points off Banchory to seemingly send the Kellands Park side down. Bon Accord meanwhile took the title for a second successive season despite being unable to force victory against Mannofield in a high-scoring encounter at the Links; while Queens Cross will undoubtedly be relieved simply to have survived the season as they were hammered by Ellon, Harry Wolrige-Gordon scoring an undefeated century and Jonathan Barrett taking a hattrick as the Gordon Park side ran out 200-run winners.
There was an upset at the top of Grade 2 as St Ronald lost to 2nd Banchory, but with Crathie also winning, it appears that St Ronald and Banchory will be playing two divisions apart next season; while Gordonians gained revenge for their cup final defeat against Cults-Artisans, 8-year old Lewis Munro holding out resolutely for four overs before his partner at the other end fell with two overs remaining to give the Countesswells men, for whom C. Mouli had earlier notched up an innings of 118, victory.
In Grade 3 2nd St Ronald completed their outstanding league campaign with victory over Methlick, while Stonehaven’s defeat of 2nd Kintore send the Castle Park side down to the lowest division next year. Academy should finish runners-up, provided they defeat 2nd Stonehaven in their re-arranged game next week.
Knightriders again proved that they are too strong for Grade 4, as they confirmed their league-cup double defeating Portcullis at Sheddocksley, while Kemnay’s chances of an immediate return to Grade 3 seem finally to have been extinguished as they went down to Stoneywood-Dyce at the Duthie Park, leaving the Peoples Park side and Portcullis to contest the second promotion spot when they meet next Sunday. Once again the teenagers were to the fore in this most-closely contested of leagues, 11-year old Abdullah Afridi adding another two wickets to his spin tally for Stoneywood, while David Kidd for the same team took a five-wicket haul, Rahul Chandhu took two for Kemnay and Hamish Ritchie a further two for Huntly despite the youngsters’ heavy defeat by Turriff.
