After a short illness, Mike McPherson of Banff and Turriff Cricket Clubs died on Monday 15th January 2007,  aged 47.

Mike started his cricket career Banff, helping them to progress to Grade 1 before the club merged with Turriff. He continued to play at Turriff until 2006, when his illness prevented his participation.

Mike was one of the best bowlers ever to play in the Aberdeenshire grades. His pace, natural swing and control of the cricket ball saw him pick up hundreds of wickets and several individual grade bowling awards over the years. This was coupled with an ability to score runs with the bat which saw him reach the magical 3 figures on a number of occasions. These attributes, and his selfless will to win, helped both Banff and Turriff to league and cup triumphs over a career spanning more than 20 years, and also saw his inclusion in the grades select.

Mike will be sadly missed by all who knew and played with him at both Banff and Turriff Cricket Clubs as well as all who played against him over the years. All our thoughts are with his wife, four children and his family at this sad time.

A funeral service for Mike is to take place on Friday 19th January 2006, Macduff Parish Church at 1.30PM all friends are respectfully invited.

I’m bit disappointed that I can’t make the AGM. I’m tutoring on a level 1 course in the Scottish Borders on Sunday all day. I’ve added my stats for the amount of kids introduced to the game and playing it at junior clubs of course. Just want you to stress the point that I am there for every young player in the area and if clubs have talented youngsters even though they don’t have a junior section they have to inform me so that I can have a look at them because they could be potential Scotland players for all we know. Mark Assiter who won the junior batting award for the grades is a perfect example. If he didn’t sign onto a summer holiday camp 2 years ago I wouldn’t have seen him and got him to play junior cricket. And he is in our Scotland u/15 winter training group.

I also believe that there are quite a number of clubs that want to stick with draw in the lower grades even though some clubs wants the limited over version. They have approached me and asked for my support to get it changed. I personally think to get youngsters into the game that the draw format, doesn’t do us any justice. No 14 year old wants to stand on a cricket field all day and go home and say we had a no result. They would rather lose and try and do better next time to get that feeling of winning. I understand that its been there for a number of years but we have got to look at the bigger picture.

The agenda for this year's AGM, which is to be held at Mannofield on Sunday December 10th at 3.00pm, is attached below. Also attached are the minutes from the Spring Meeting, Financial Statement for 2005-2006, Secretary's Report and proposed changes to the rules for the 2007 season.

The 2006 prize winners are as follows;

Aberdeenshire Cup - Kintore
Bon Accord Cup - 2nd Cults
Reid Cup - Crathie
Johnston Rose Bowl - Turriff
Bain Cup - Bon Accord
Junior League Cup - Artisans
MrPurple  Oct 12 2006 - 10:37am
Earlier this week the attention of the Secretary of the Association was drawn to comments on a local cricket web site, seriously impugning not only the competence, but also the integrity, of the umpires in Sunday's Aberdeenshire Cup Final.  These caused grave upset to the individuals concered, without whose input we would have no appointed umpires at all.

While these comments have now been removed, and a full apology made and accepted, Officers of the Association wish to make it clear that such comments are entirely unacceptable, and can lead to disciplinary action under Rule 22 of the Association for bringing the game into disrepute, with available penalties - depending on whether the infraction is by an individual or a club as a whole - including suspension, a monetary fine, or a deduction of league points.

You have been warned.

The Turriff cup 20/twenty Semi and Final have been scheduled for this weekend 9th/10th September at the Links.

First of the games with BonAccord and AGFP scheduled to start at 13:00 and the Second scheduled at 16:00 with Mannofield playing the winner of the previous game. Both games have been scheduled to minimise disruption from the football game at Pittodrie.
wytbu8  Sep 8 2006 - 9:00am

Kintore win the Aberdeenshire CupBon Accord's hopes of completing a full sweep of all the trophies open them failed at the penultimate hurdle, as their batting crumbled against Kintore in Sunday's Aberdeenshire Cup Final at Mannofield.

wytbu8  Sep 3 2006 - 8:29pm
A century from wicketkeeper A Win and five wickets from Mac Ahmed saw Bon Accord comfortably beat Kintore to take the Grade 1 title in Saturday's final round of fixtures in the top two leagues.

At the other end of the table meanwhile Queens Cross fell 4 agonising runs short of retaining their Grade 1 status in their head-to-head contest with Inverurie at Kellands Park, while Grammar FPs took the points they needed to survive despite losing to Ellon.

The Grade 2 title goes to Artisans following their defeat of Academy at the Duthie Park, while Gordonians beat Kemnay in a low-scoring game at Bogbeath Park.
MrPurple  Sep 2 2006 - 10:03pm
Cricket Users Group Meeting originally arranged for tonight (Thursday 31st August) has been postponed to Thursday 7 September 2006 at 7pm at the Tennis Centre in Westburn Park.
MrPurple  Aug 31 2006 - 2:58pm
Having avoided one another all season, Bon Accord play Kintore twice in 24 hours at the weekend in their attempt to make a clean sweep of all the trophies open to them this season.

Requiring only 10 points to take the league title, Saturday's Grade 1 encounter paradoxically probably presents the simpler task than Sunday's one-off game at Mannofield.  If however Bon Accord do slip up on Saturday, then Cults, who have finished their programme, will once again be crowned champions.

At the bottom of the league meanwhile Queens Cross need to win and restrict Inverurie to less than 10 points if the Harlaw side are not to be relegated to Grade 2, with the odds probably on the Kellands Park side surviving.

The other issue to be resolved is the Grade 2 title, which will go to Artisans if they win their final game against Academy.  However should Artisans miss out then 2nd Cults have the possibility of gaining promotion along with Mannofield, both sides having completed their programmes last weekend.

In Grade 4, already won by Turriff, St Ronald take on Dunecht at King's College.

MrPurple  Aug 30 2006 - 11:02pm
The titles in both Grade 1 and 2, and who is relegated from the top division are issues still to be resolved following the final full round of Grades matches at the weekend.

At the top of Grade 1 both Bon Accord and Cults won, leaving the Bons needing 10 points from their final game against Kintore to take the league from the current champions.

MrPurple  Aug 27 2006 - 9:54pm

Winning the toss, and electing to bat second, probably cost Stoneywood-Dyce victory as in rapidly fading light they lost to the Grades Select by 7 runs in last night's final of the Malik  City of Aberdeen Twenty20 Cup played at Peoples Park.

MrPurple  Aug 22 2006 - 9:34am
Mannofield's hope of completing a Grade 2 league and cup double were thwarted as they were defeated by 2nd Cults in Sunday's Bon Accord Cup Final held at the Allan Park.

Crathie meanwhile hoisted themselves closer to Grade 3 safety as they beat 2nd Banchory on the Royal Estate.  By agreement between the clubs the reverse fixture between the two sides, also postponed earlier in the season, has been declared void.
MrPurple  Aug 20 2006 - 9:56pm

This season's Grade competitions look set to go into overtime, as heavy overnight rain washed some fixtures for the second time this summer, with the Association Rules requiring the postponed fixtures requiring to be replayed a week on Sunday.

MrPurple  Aug 20 2006 - 4:53pm

It could be a case of winner-takes-all in this week's ICC Intercontinental Cup match between European rivals Scotland and Ireland  in Aberdeen at Mannofield starting (11:00) this Thursday 17th - 20th.

wytbu8  Aug 16 2006 - 10:48am

Sean Hicks, playing in his first ever competitive match, for Banchory's u13's against Stonehaven last night, came on to bowl the second over of the game and recorded the remarkable figures of;

W W W . W + W

A hattrick with his first three deliveries and five wickets in an over! He ended up with figures of 6 for 5 in his allotted four overs. And to cap it all he then went on to score 20 not out.
MrPurple  Aug 15 2006 - 12:52pm

A second victory of the season for Stonehaven over Kintore looks effectively to have eliminated last season's champions from this year's Grade 1 title race, and reduced the competition to a straight head off between Bon Accord and Cults, both of whom won on Saturday against Ellon and Banchory respectively.

wytbu8  Aug 13 2006 - 8:06pm
The individual performances page (centuries, five wicket hauls, etc) has finally been updated to show all of this year's figures so far. It doesn't include hattricks yet but will do in the near future.
