Last Friday afternoon, Aberdeen City Council informed the ACA that there would only be one square available at Sheddocksley for the first weeks of the season. Disaster was averted last weekend by sheer luck, as one of the games scheduled for Sheddockley was postponed by agreement between the clubs, but it still left the prospect of only pitches 5 being available until after the 17th of May - down from the 7 that were orginally promised.
However, the council have now agreed to move the football games instead, and the games scheduled for Sheddockley will be played as per the fixtures list.

The clouds parted just in time to permit a virtually full opening programme of games in this season’s Thistle Sports Grades on Saturday.

While there were comfortable victories for last year’s Grade 1 top two, Cults and Bon Accord, over Mannofield and 2nd Cults respectively, with Cults’ skipper Amol Saxena scoring an undefeated century, the two results which will probably attract most attention were at the Duthie Park, where newly-promoted Caledonian defeated Ellon, and Marywell Park, where Kintore were forced to play out time for a draw against Stonehaven.  Banchory beat Inverurie in the day’s remaining Grade 1 game.

Weather permitting, the Grades cricket season for 2008 opens on Saturday, with a full programme of games in all four leagues following the major reconstruction of the fixture list necessitated by a broken drain on Links 5.
Once again the Grade 1 title is expected to be contested between Cults, Bon Accord and Kintore; with Ellon and Stonehaven also having an outside chance.  A new first in the top Grade however will be the presence of two teams from the same club, as 2nd Cults join their first eleven in the top

The 2008 fixtures list has been changed to take account of Crathie's needing to be away in weeks 1 & 2; Mannofield having the use of Countesswells for four Saturdays in late June to early August; and the reduction in Council pitches from 7 to 6 consequent on the broken drain on Links 5.
The new fixtures list is attached below.
